about us

The Gilmore Cycling Classic is a Boxing Day tradition in the heart of Launceston - a fast, technical criterium that brings together riders, families, and cycling fans for a celebration of Tasmanian cycling culture.

The event honours Matthew and Graeme Gilmore, two Tasmanian riders who achieved success on the world stage and have remained deeply connected to the local cycling community. Their dedication, mentorship, and belief in the next generation continue to shape cycling in Tasmania today.

Run by the Tasmanian Junior Cycling Foundation, the Classic reflects the Foundation’s purpose: to create opportunities for young Tasmanian riders to grow, learn, and see how far the sport can take them. The event provides a rare chance to race on fully closed city streets, with the atmosphere of spectators, businesses, and community right there on the barriers.

From elite athletes to first-time racers, the Gilmore Cycling Classic is about showcasing talent, building pathways, and celebrating the people who make Tasmanian cycling what it is.

A race for the riders.
A day for the community.
A legacy we’re proud to continue.
